The Vision of the Network


The vision of the Network is to serve as a space for post-secondary academic dialogue, information dispersal and education on the Social Economy. Its purpose is to better enable students, researchers and community practitioners to connect to one another across geographic boundaries, and academic disciplines, to break down researcher-practitioner barriers and dichotomies of practice and to help members acquire and share research and related information that deals with aspects of the Social Economy. This includes, but is not limited to: academic papers and research projects, a SE bibliography, upcoming conferences and calls for papers, online seminars and lectures on the SE, resources on conducting SE-based research, existing university and college courses and programs with a particular SE focus, employment opportunities or practicum’s and community-based initiatives

 

Goals & Objectives of the Student Network

  • Unify the community of individuals interested in learning about the Social Economy by promoting activities, offering useful links and making information easily available to all  interested
  • Foster a nationwide and global informal learning, knowledge mobilization and information-sharing network composed of post-secondary students from universities and colleges
  • Provide a setting in which to highlight and advance the diverse research of all students who examine aspects of the Social Economy in their work
  • Showcase student-led initiatives to the broader  community related to the Social Economy and introduce programs specific to the needs and interests of students
  • Increase the visibility of the Social Economy in the academy and promote awareness of the Social Economy as a field of research and study at the post-secondary level
  • Generate new knowledge with the strong potential to strengthen the base of Canada’s Social Economy and the global Social Economy
  • Raise awareness of creative ideas and stimulate broad dialogue regarding new areas of inquiry on the Social Economy
  • Clearly define the Social Economy, and help those who are doing work that falls within the Social Economy realize that they are part of a larger student movement
